General practitioner since 1968, Dr Jean-Pierre Chiasson practiced in remote regions for seven years. Upon his return in the big city, after a year of specializing in internal medicine, he gradually became interested in alcoholism and drug addiction. Since that time he has worked, first part time and later full time, in this fascinating field. In the same context, he succeeded in perfecting his knowledge by doing multiple internships in the United States to obtain, in 1988, a certificate from the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
For the past 35 years, he has devoted all of his energy to the assessment, detoxification, treatment and screening of co-morbid alcoholism and drug addiction disorders.
His passion has always been sustained, he has been involved in research and teaching. He is still involved today as medical director and forensic assessment expert for CEPAT.
